About me: Sysadmin who has dabbled in cloud and has a general understanding of key cloud concepts; have not married myself to or specialized in using any particular provider. Looking to change that by obtaining architect-tier certifications for AWS and GCP - starting with GCP.I received this book on June 13th, finished reading through it June 25th, and scheduled my exam for the 29th. Until I sit for the exam, I'm studying with the practice exam engine (included), and reviewing the official GCP documentation for the obscure tidbits of information (IAM roles, service limitations, gcloud command options).Considering that I scored well on the chapter review questions (avg 90% per chapter, 93% cumulative) and this [OFFICIAL] study guide covers all exam objectives, I feel confident that the worst possible outcome is that I will barely pass the exam. Best case, I'll knock it out with ease. I'll update this review with my result (PASS/FAIL).If you have a background and motive similar to mine, I would suggest using this book, the practice exam engine, and GCP documentation as resources to prepare yourself for the GCP ACE Exam. Others might suggest using ACloudGuru, LinuxAcademy, or some free courses to prepare but I found that this book and official docs were enough.Post-exam edit: Passed on first attempt (6/29). Scores aren’t given, but I’ve read somewhere that around 80% (40/50) is the cut. The questions on the exam were somewhat similar to the testing engine and end-of-chapter review questions. Again, I only used this book, official documentation, and made heavy use of the testing engine (400+ questions, including book’s review questions). Your experience may vary, but I would suggest getting familiar with the format of gcloud commands, basic kubectl commands, the limitations and capabilities of GCP’s services, and IAM. I would say that the guide in general will give you a high level understanding of the different components of GCP. To understand more and be successful in the Exam, you will have to read through GCP docs, their use cases and other sources of materials.Couple of things to be aware of:Know that Google is continuously updating and changing GCP and what's stated in the guide may not be the most current. Ex.(As of this writing, you can have up to 96 vCPUs. Cloud Functions supports runtime: Node.js 6(deprecated), Node.js 8, Node.js 10(beta), Python 3, Go 1.11).Questions that come with the study have answers which are usually pretty obvious. In the actual exam, it is less so and you will have to read both the questions and answer choices carefully.You will be tested on elements for specific services that go more in depth than the guide does, so make sure you go through multiple sources of materials.
